Made.com is an online designer furniture retailer based in London. Founded by Ning Li (CEO), Julien Callède (COO) and Chloe Macintosh (Creative Director), it launched in 2010 with substantial funding and has recently received an injection of series B financing. The company creates made-to-order furniture and saves customers up to 50%-80% on high street stores by cutting out the middleman. Made.com also connects over 100,000 customers directly with British designers including Steuart Padwick, John Stefanidis and Alison Cork.
Made.com hired Nikita Thakrar from NEF class of 2013. Nikita Thakrar graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2011 where she read Economics and was elected President of Birmingham Entrepreneurs. Straight after, she beat stiff competition and joined BT as one of their youngest Sales Account Managers. Nikita has an array of work experience including time with a technology start-up in India specialising in Radio-frequency identification (RFID), a global fashion events company, J Model Management and one of the UK’s award winning marketing agencies, Big Communications. She was also a midshipman in the University Royal Naval Unit, Politics Coordinator for NHSF and Team Leader for Welcome International. Whilst at university, Nikita was selected to be part of two government initiatives, Study India & Study China, and also gained a scholarship to represent the UK at the International Youth Leaders Conference in Prague.
At Made.com Nikita has been involved with a range of different projects. She has worked with the Customer Service team to analyse potential problems and make recommendations. She facilitated logistics and delivery while working on a project with consultants and Operations Manager. She has also handled research projects on exploring opportunities in international sourcing and expansion.
On her work experience at made.com, Nikita says, “it has helped me understand just how complex the inner workings of a fairly new business are and how numerous things need to be juggled simultaneously. Working directly with one of the co-founders has given me a new perspective on key aspects such as hiring and international expansion. It has also given me an insight into what really goes on in a business.”
About Nikita’s work at Made.com, Julien Callede, COO, Made.com says, “It’s been amazing to welcome a fast thinking, bright and extremely motivated talent able to think out of the box within a company our size. Nikita has been a huge boost of fresh air for the team, and has managed to deliver great results very quickly on some critical projects. It’s also really pleasant to be giving back some of our time when we’ve been learning so much from others ourselves.”
